FIX Protocol: Part I - Introduction

Dernière mise à jour : 19 nov. 2025

Curious and intrigued by how data can be encoding across the financial industry, especially in systems with multiple processes running concurrently, I delved into the FIX Protocol, a fanancial message encoder.

In school, I learned about various communication protocols such as Sockets (TCP/IP), Pipes, and File-based systems, which gave me a solid understanding of network systems.

Driven by my curiosity, I decided to explore FIX Protocol through their official resources at fixtrading.org and FIX Recommended Practices. These resources deepened my understanding of best practices for implementing the FIX Protocol, particularly in fast-paced financial environments.the transmission of financial information, including trade orders, execution reports, market data, and other trade-related messages

There are faster encoding protocols, such as ITCH, which provide traders with a direct data feed from stock exchanges.

Here are some of the subjects I can’t wait to explore further:

  • FIX Market Data over Multicast Transport

  • Post-Trade Processing via FIX Recommended Practices: Equity Options

  • Post-Trade Processing via FIX Recommended Practices - Futures
